FAQs
What is it?
Beyond Movement Barre is an uplifting, fascia focused approach to Barre Fitness - a full body workout that combines elements from movement mobility, Pilates, and weight/strength training to mindfully mobilise and strengthen your body. It is set to a playlist and uses various small props and weights.
Explore exercises that wake up all your trillions of body parts. Build strength, increase mobility, move better with less pain and more grace & agility.
The class ends with a relaxation incorporating self myofascial release and breath techniques to modulate your nervous system.
Who is it suitable for?
Beginners are welcome and extra challenges are available to ensure you’re working at your fullest potential.
As with starting anything new your first class will likely feel challenging and we’ll encourage you to stick with it. Come with an open mind and willingness to try something new.
This class is aimed at women (18+) with a reasonable level of fitness:
During the class we work lying on the mat, on our back / front / side or quadruped (all fours), as well as standing and at the Barre. As long as you have the mobility to get down on the floor and stand up without assistance, the class should be suitable for you.
There are a range of weights (dumbbells) to choose from, from light to heavier to ensure you can customize the class to suit your needs and goals.
What are the benefits of this type of class?
This class is something your 100 year old self will be proud you invested your time in practicing from now.
Develop the grace to stand taller and become stronger in both body and mind. You’ll get a great class without putting excessive stress on your joints. This method will help you develop bone density, stamina, muscles strength, improved balance and increased mobility.
Taking part in a mindful movement practice like Barre will have effects in life outside the studio such as increased mood, better concentration, relaxation and posture.
Many of the health problems that we will face as we age, can be mitigated by movement. It is too easy to loose the belief in your athletic ability, especially through Midlife, which ultimately leads to less muscle mass, lower body confident, lower motivation and reduction in health.
Movement is intertwined completely with selfcare - we can be far better caregivers to our family, partners, community, friends, children etc. in a healthy and balanced state.
What do I wear and bring?
Wear your general workout clothing, basically anything that you are comfortable moving in (i.e leggings/light joggers and a t-shirt). Wear socks and you might want a layer to wear at the end, as we cool down.
Bring a bottle of water.
(All props and mats are provided. Bring your own mat if you prefer. )

““From the first session I was absolutely hooked! Barre is a great way to tone and build strength and Victoria is a fabulous teacher-explaining each movement in detail. It is a great way to wake up your body. I totally recommend the class and can’t wait for the next one!”

“This was my first ever Barre class, and my first time exercising in a very long time after having a baby, so I was really nervous...!! Thankfully, Victoria is a true professional - she’s clearly very knowledgeable and immediately put me at ease. You can take the class at your own pace and intensity, the atmosphere is fun and relaxed, and you leave feeling like you’ve had a thorough workout. I’ve only been to four classes so far, but I already feel fitter and more confident. Thank you Victoria!!”

“The technique is focused and precise, working on mindful alignment and repetition to the point where you certainly feel it, but without it ever becoming grueling! Victoria leads with a great balance of expectation and positive encouragement and an upbeat sense of fun in both her manner and playlist. I come away feeling that my whole body is awake and strengthened and after just a few weeks I can feel the difference in tone and posture that this practice can make.”
